Who we are

TaxBandCheck is operated by ENA Enterprises Ltd (company number 17257845), the data controller for this site, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under reference ZC164333. What data we collect

We collect the following data depending on how you use the service:

Band checker tool — postcode entered into the checker (used to run the band assessment)
Payments — payment details are processed by Stripe and are not stored by TaxBandCheck
For Professionals enquiry form — name, company, email address, phone number (optional), firm type, and portfolio description

Why we collect it

We collect postcode data to run the council tax band assessment. Enquiry form data is collected to respond to professional enquiries about our triage tool and API access. Your data is used solely for these purposes.

Legal basis for processing

We process your personal data on the basis of legitimate interest (providing the band assessment service) and consent (when you submit an enquiry form). You may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us.

Who we share your data with

We use Stripe to process payments and Resend to deliver transactional emails. We do not sell your data to third parties or use it for marketing beyond the stated purpose.

Google — Google Analytics 4, for website analytics.
Mediavine — advertising and reader engagement on our public pages, together with Mediavine’s advertising partners.

Data retention

We retain enquiry form submissions for 12 months from the date of submission. After this period, your data is permanently deleted. Postcode data entered into the checker tool is not stored.

Cookies and similar technologies

TaxBandCheck uses cookies and similar technologies. They fall into three groups.

Essential. Needed for the site to work — keeping you signed in, holding your session, and processing payments securely through Stripe. These are always active.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site: which pages are read, how long people stay, and where they arrive from. This runs across the whole site, including the B2B dashboard. We do not use it to identify you personally.
Advertising and reader engagement. On our public pages — never inside the B2B dashboard — we run Journey by Mediavine, which displays advertising, and Grow, a reader engagement tool from the same provider. Mediavine and its advertising partners may set first- and third-party cookies and may process data including your IP address, approximate location, device information and browsing activity in order to select, deliver and measure advertising, including personalised advertising.

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Blocking non-essential cookies will not prevent you using the band checker.

Your rights under GDPR

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the following rights:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Rectification — ask us to correct any inaccurate data
Erasure — ask us to delete your data
Restriction — ask us to restrict how we use your data
Portability — request your data in a portable format
Objection — object to our processing of your data

International transfers

Your data is not transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA).

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “last updated” date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Valuation Tribunal decisions

We use decisions published by the Valuation Tribunal for England, reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0. From each decision we keep the address of the property decided, the appeal number, the decision date, the effective date and the band before and after. We do not keep the name of anyone in a decision, or any hearing details.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: ours and our customers' interest in helping council tax payers and their advisers find evidence about council tax bands. A decision is shown for the property it decided, and for another property only where the two are near-identical: the same type, built form and age, a similar size, and within 2 km.

We stop showing or using a decision 6 years after its decision date, and then delete it.

You can object to our use of a decision about your home by emailing us at the address on this page, and we will stop using it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
